Children love to kick a ball almost as soon as they can stand up, so with this idea and our football coaching knowledge we embarked on building an early years football based development centre which incorporates core skills such as listening, communication and taking turns whilst building in balance, colour and numeracy recognition yet wrapping it all up in a fun session with opportunities to score plenty of goals.

We actively encourage parental participation for some of the activities so feel free to get involved, after all, practice at home will make the experience even more rewarding!

The whole experience is wrapped up in a 45 minute weekly session where children have the chance to score plenty of goals and have fun meeting new friends.

We are delighted to promote both the Surestart and Change for Life schemes which encourages family welfare and healthy eating and exercise in children. For details on these schemes, click the logos for further information.

Eight Point Kiddy Action Plan

1. SUGAR SWAPS - Swap sugary drinks for water or unsweetened fruit juice.

2. MEAL TIME - Eat 3 meals a day, including a healthy school lunch.

3. ME SIZE MEALS - Eat the right size meals for your age, not as large as a grown up!

4. SNACK CHECK - Lots of snacks are full of fat, sugar and salt - eat healthy snacks!

5. FIVE A DAY - Try to eat 5 portions of fruit and veg every day.

6. CUT BACK FAT - Change how meals are cooked. How about grilling instead of frying?

7. SIXTY ACTIVE MINUTES - Spend 60 minutes walking, playing sport, running around or playing outside every day.

8. UP AND ABOUT - Computer games are fun but after sitting around for a while, jump up and do something more active!

Change 4 Life

Why do we need to change our habits?

Quite simply, because modern life makes it hard to eat healthy food and get enough exercise. As a result we can end up with too much fat in our bodies.
This fat can lead to preventable illnesses such as type 2 diabetes heart disease and cancer. So the habits children get into when they are young can lead to or increase the risk of problems when they're adults.
The problem is that research also shows that many parents are unaware of the risks to their children. They tend to underestimate the amount they and their children eat and overestimate the amount of activity the family does.

So, how serious a problem is this?
According to government figures, if we carry on as we are 9 out of 10 children will grow up to have dangerous amounts of fat in their bodies. Yet only one in ten parents recognise that their child is overweight or obese.

It's no wonder the situation has been described as a 'time bomb'.
